Just a short one this time around, but probably pretty useful if you travel a lot.
Roaming charges for X-Series?
Tony writes: Hi there, quick questions about the X-Series Gold Package.
- Is there a roaming charge for internet usage abroad? I know there is a charge for Skype calls but what about 'normal' web browsing?
- Does Slingbox work from other countries i.e., Hong Kong with 3G coverage? Additional cost?
These answers will determine a new contract next week!
3 UK writes: The services on X-Series Gold (including Slingbox access) will only work when you are in the video coverage areas on 3's networks abroad, including when in Hong Kong.
When on 3's networks you will not incur any roaming charges for using X-Series Gold services (other than Skype). This means no additional charges when using Slingbox, Messenger or surfing the web -- and it all remains free and unlimited (subject to the normal fair use limits).
Currently the only service that attracts roaming charges is Skype to Skype calls where you will pay voice roaming charges.
But watch this space as we are currently looking at the roaming charges for Skype.

Thanks for clarifying my earlier question about the fair use policy and Skype.
Is it only on the X-Series Gold plan that there are no roaming charges for internet access (except Skype), or does this apply to the X-Series Silver plan also?
I hope you do change your minds on removing roaming charges for Skype also.
I would sign up to 3 and X-Series in an instant if you did!

Hi,
i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what plans are regarding other handsets. i'm sure this is a hot topic for many of your customers who are already on a plan with an existing handset!

Perhaps 3 should focus a little more effort on educating their sales staff. I have phoned 4 different 3 stores to specifically ask about roaming charges for Skype to Skype calls and have been told on each occasion that they are totally free and do not incur roaming charges, was about to sign up for Gold until I decided to have a quick check here. Hope 3 have a rethink on this one. Free Skype calls abroad would be a killer application.

Hi, Please can you just clear up something for me...I have X Series Silver package and I travel to Morocco a lot. Please can you tell me if my internet usage (both web browsing and modem use) is free or do you charge a roaming fee? Also is MSN messenger free too? Only I have read on this site that its free - but I have asked in store and they said its definaty not free anywhere outside of the UK on both silver or gold package. Thanks
