X-Series Answers 04

It’s time for another X-Series Answers. This is the fourth in our ongoing series. Keep ‘em coming either via responses to our posts or by directly emailing us at blog.xseries@three.com.

Not a cap, just fair use
We’ve had quite a few questions about what is included in the unlimited data service, Skype, Messenger and so on. So 3 UK writes: The 1GB fair use limit applies only to the "unlimited data" services listed, which currently include web searching and surfing, mobile mail and pod casts. These services are not very data intensive and it will be difficult to reach this limit in a month.

And remember these fair use policies are guides, not caps, so unless you are really abusing the service you can drift over the limit from time to time with no additional charges. Orb and Sling (on X-Series Gold) have their own fair use limit of 80 hours per month, while Skype’s is 5000 minutes a month, and Windows Live Messenger’s is 10,000 messages.

So they are all separate fair use limits and there is no doubling up. We’re going to have a look at the words we use in the fair use policy to see if we make this clearer.

18 what?
Darren writes: I was going to go straight out and get one of these once I saw the price plans and fair usage limits were reasonable ... until I saw they were 18 month contracts only! No thanks 3, better luck next time!

3 UK writes:  To get X-Series you can sign up to (or already be on) any 12 month or 18 month Pay Monthly plan from 3.  Perhaps the advertisement or promotion you saw was only for handsets on 18 month contracts, so it referred to "18 months" in the small print. Does Skype include Skype-Out or is that blocked?

Skype out is blocked but not because of any service limitation it appears to be a move to protect 3 Calling revenues.

Once or twice I got my complete contact list which includes a few US landlines and I was able to call them no problem. Usually only the skype usernames are visible on the handset

I'm currently on the Direct Text 1400 tariff with a Nokia N80.

From reading the all the info on the site, it seems that the x-series features will never make it onto the N80.

So i was wondering is there a way that i can stop on the tariff/contract that i'm on, get a N73 and then subscribe to a x-series package?

Thanks for the response! Indeed if you try to purchase X-Series on your website you only get the option of 18 month contracts hence my confusion.

Right I'm off down to Oxford Street to get a shiny new X-Series :-)

So you can get a Nokia N73 on X-Series on a 12 month contract ?

IRC? Jabber? I use these a fair bit on my S60 phone, would these come into the "unlimited data" bundle?

Or are you blocking particular ports and services?

I've got an N80 will this X-series work? I should presume as they are both using the same operating system?

Also i've got £5 worth of downloads every month in my price plan (Talk and Text 700). Can i trade this for the monthly x-series £5???

This phone would be perfect for me as it would be very cheap to talk to my boyfriend who lives in the UK etc. How do I get this phone in the USA?

Thanks.

What does internet use really mean on the X-Series, beacuase I've had conflicting statements from various sources, this blog, X-Series website, forums and 3's CS.
I was told by 3's CS that internet use meant data, so I was able to use any app on my phone which accessed the internet, like MiniOpera, MobileNews, etc..
1st month using X-Series, was no problem, used about 200MB and everything was included in the £5 X-Series (Silver) package, but into 2nd month and my recent charges stand at £71.87, calling 3's CS they stated this was for internet use and told me to stop using the internet till my bill comes in to tel me and them exactly what the charges are for.

We need to have a very clear understanding from Three what 1GB data allowance actually means, cos my understanding was anything connecting to the '3 Connection' was classed as internet use and included in the X-Series package.

hi,
i have nokia n80 and i've got msn software in my fone but problem is it doesnt work on 3g network can any one help me to work this msn in to my phone thanks

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to the Opera browser on my e61, which is *much* more usable than the built in Nokia one. This has led me to really start taking advantage of the phone as a web browser, but I'm getting very frustrated at the number of sites that are blocked - specifically your definition of "adult" sites.

For example, nuts.co.uk is blocked, but I can't imagine that it offers anything more salacious than the "adult" pay services that you yourselves offer. What's the rationale behind blocking sites and how do you justify blocking content that is similar to that which you yourselves provide (for a fee)
